What robotic cleaner has actually lasted you more than a year?

Mine died after 11 months, even with babying it. What brands are worth the money?
I’ve been using the Polaris 9550 Sport for over two years, and it’s still working like a charm. It handles leaves, dirt, and even small twigs really well, which is great if your pool gets a lot of debris. The build feels sturdy, and I haven’t had to do any major repairs or replacements so far. It’s not the cheapest option out there, but spending a little more upfront has saved me hassle down the road. If you want a cleaner that’s tough, reliable, and does the job without constant problems, I’d definitely recommend this model.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Polaris 9550 Sport. That’s exactly the kind of info I’ve been looking for. A cleaner that lasts more than a couple seasons without constant repairs is hard to find, and it’s good to hear it holds up with heavier debris too. I’ve been on the fence about spending more upfront, but your comment makes a strong case for investing in quality over replacing cheap ones every year. Definitely adding this one to my shortlist.

Seems like investing in a solid cleaner is the way to go! I’ve been eyeing the Polaris too, but I’ve got a smaller pool and wonder if a smaller model would still do the job. Anyone with a compact pool tried this one out?

I’m with you on the solid investment approach. I’ve been looking into the Polaris too but wonder if its size is too much for a smaller pool. Anyone here tried a smaller Polaris model or any other compact options that worked well?

I’ve gone through a couple over the years, and the ones that actually lasted past that first-year mark all had two things in common: solid build quality and regular, basic care. My Dolphin is going on year four now. Nothing fancy, I just rinse the filters after each run, keep it out of direct sun, and store it indoors when it’s not in use. That alone seems to make a huge difference.

Friends with Polaris units have had similar luck, especially the mid-range and higher models. The smaller Polaris cleaners still work well in compact pools, they just finish cycles faster rather than being “too much” for the space.

One thing worth mentioning: when a cleaner starts missing fine debris, people often assume it’s failing. Sometimes the robot is fine and the water just needs a little help. A clarifier can restore that polished look, Aquadoc’s clarifier has been the most consistent for me.

In my experience, paying more upfront beats replacing a budget cleaner every season.
