Saltwater generator troubles. Need help!

hey, is anyone else having issues with saltwater generators not keeping the pool water balanced? I feel like it’s constantly fluctuating, and I can’t seem to get it right. Thoughts?

Yeah, I’ve had that problem before. I think the issue might be with how long you’re running the generator. I had to adjust mine and keep it running for a little longer than usual to get the balance right. Have you checked the salt level lately?

Hey Leon,

Yeah, I’ve been through the same thing. When I first got my saltwater system set up, I was constantly fighting with the levels and especially the chlorine and pH. Turned out my salt cell needed cleaning way more often than I thought, and once I got on a regular schedule with that, things started to even out.

Also, check if your stabilizer (cyanuric acid) is in the right range. Mine was too low at one point, and the chlorine was burning off super fast in the sun. Took me forever to figure that out.

It’s definitely not “set it and forget it” like some folks say, but once you get it dialed in, it’s much smoother. Hang in there, it gets easier.

I’ve heard of this happening! Saltwater generators can sometimes cause water balance issues, especially if the salt level or pH is off. If your water chemistry is constantly fluctuating, it could be because the generator isn’t producing enough chlorine, or the salt level is too low or too high. Make sure you’re regularly checking both salt and stabilizer levels, as well as the pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness. The system can be a little more sensitive to imbalances than a traditional chlorine pool, so it’s important to monitor everything closely. Also, if the generator is older or not working at full capacity, it could be contributing to the issue.
