Remove dent from above ground pool?

I noticed a dent in the wall of my above ground pool, possibly from a shovel or something bumping into it. It’s not leaking, but it’s definitely visible and I’m worried it could cause problems down the line. Has anyone successfully removed a dent like this? Is it something I should fix ASAP, or just leave it alone if the structure seems okay?

If the dent isn’t causing leaks or structural issues, it’s usually okay to monitor it without immediate repair. However, keep an eye on it for any changes or signs of damage. If the dent worsens or you notice leaks, getting it fixed sooner will prevent bigger problems later.

A dent like you're describing is usually more common than you'd think. If it’s not leaking and the structural integrity seems solid no creaking, bulging, or shifting when the pool is full, you're probably okay for now.

Nevertheless, it's wise to monitor it. Over time, dents may cause the metal wall to deteriorate, particularly if it is in a high-stress area or receives a lot of sunlight. I usually feel around the dent to make sure it's not sharp or causing stress cracks; if it is, it's best to take care of it right away.

If you want to try fixing it, you can push the dent out from the inside if the pool is empty or mostly drained, just be gentle and use even pressure I’ve used a rubber mallet or a wooden block with good success. But be careful not to overdo it and stress the liner if it’s still in place.

if it’s just cosmetic and the wall still feels strong, you can probably leave it for now, but it’s definitely worth monitoring, and don’t be afraid to fix it next time you have the pool drained.

If the dent isn’t deep and there’s no leak or structural warping, it’s usually safe to leave it alone.
Many above ground pools can handle minor dents without issues. Just keep an eye on it over time for signs of rust or spreading. If the wall feels weak or the liner looks stressed in that area, it might be worth reinforcing or consulting a pro.

Yeah, I had a small dent in mine a couple years ago probably from someone bumping it with a wheelbarrow. If it’s not leaking and the liner’s fine, it’s usually not a big deal. More annoying to look at than anything else.

You won’t really be able to pop it out unless the pool’s empty. The water pressure keeps the wall rigid. Some people try using a rubber mallet when it’s drained, but honestly if it’s not creased or rusting, you might be better off just leaving it unless it gets worse.

Just keep an eye on it. If you see rust or if the dent starts growing or flexing weird, then yeah, time to deal with it. Otherwise you’re probably fine.

Dents in above ground pool walls can definitely be concerning, especially when you first notice them. If it’s not leaking and the structure feels solid no bulging or unusual sounds when the pool is full, you’re probably okay to leave it for now and just keep an eye on it.

That said, if the dent is sharp or creased, it could create a weak point over time, especially if it's in a high-pressure area or gets direct sun a lot. In those cases, I’d consider smoothing it out next time the pool is drained. Some people have had success pushing the dent out from the inside with a rubber mallet or block of wood, but you want to be super gentle so you don’t damage the liner or cause more stress.

Also, check the area around the dent for any small cracks or signs of rust if it's a metal wall, those are worth addressing sooner rather than later.

If the dent isn't causing a leak and the structure still seems sturdy, it may not be an immediate emergency, but it's still worth addressing to avoid potential issues later. If the dent is shallow, you might be able to fix it by gently pushing it out from the inside, using a soft cloth or a rubber mallet (carefully) to avoid damaging the pool further.

For deeper dents, you could use a dent repair kit designed for above-ground pool walls. These often come with a patch or filler to smooth out the surface and restore the integrity of the wall.

While it might not need to be fixed immediately, I recommend addressing it soon to prevent any stress on the pool wall that could lead to bigger problems. If you're unsure about the repair, consulting the manufacturer or a professional could give you peace of mind.
