Need help with controlling algae in your pool?

I’ve been struggling with stubborn green algae in my pool. No matter what I try, it keeps coming back. Any tips to finally get rid of it?
One thing I found helpful is making sure the pool water circulation is strong and consistent sometimes algae hide in spots with poor flow. Also, keeping the pH balanced seems to keep them at bay longer.

Man, I’ve been there green algae’s a pain. First thing, make sure your chlorine is staying in range, not just right after shocking but over several days. I had to slam the pool once with liquid chlorine (like triple dose), brush the walls and floor every day for a few days, and run the pump non-stop until it cleared up. After that, I kept my chlorine just a bit higher than usual and added a weekly algaecide. Haven’t had it come back since.

Yeah, if it keeps coming back, it’s usually a combo of low chlorine and dead spots in circulation. Try this:
- Shock it heavy at night liquid chlorine works best
- Brush everything hard, especially behind ladders, steps, and corners
- Run the filter 24/7 until the water clears
- Vacuum to waste if you can, so you're not recycling algae through the filter
- Once it’s clear, test and adjust your CYA (stabilizer). If that’s too high, chlorine won’t be as effective

Also, make sure your filter’s clean a clogged filter just spreads the problem around.

I’ve had some luck with keeping algae at bay by using a natural enzyme treatment every week. It helps break down organic matter that algae feeds on, and it seems to help reduce those stubborn green patches. Also, I like to make sure I’m not overfeeding the pool with too many chemicals; balance is key.

I had a stretch where green algae kept creeping back too, and what finally helped was tightening up the parts of the routine that are easy to overlook. After shocking and brushing, I started paying more attention to how quickly my chlorine was dropping during the day, turns out the levels were dipping lower than I thought between tests. Keeping it steady for a full week made a big difference.

I also found that pulling the ladder out and cleaning behind it stopped a lot of the recurring patches. Those hidden spots seem to hold onto algae longer than you think.

If the water ever starts getting hazy while you’re fighting it, I use Aquadoc’s clarifier and it clears things up fast so the chlorine can do its job. Staying on top of the details has kept mine under control since.
