Losing Pressure Overnight

My pool pump runs fine during the day, but every morning I notice a drop in water level and pressure. Could this be a leak somewhere, or is air getting into the system?

That sounds like it could be air getting into the system overnight or possibly a slow leak. Here are a few things to check:

  • Inspect the pump lid and o-ring for any cracks or poor seals. If air’s getting in when the pump shuts off, it can cause the water to drain back and lower the level.
  • Check the plumbing joints and valves - especially near the suction side (between the skimmer and the pump). Look for wet spots or small drips.
  • Skimmer weir door stuck? Sometimes if it’s jammed, it can mess with flow and trap air in the lines.
  • If you have a leak on the pressure side, you might not see it right away since it only leaks when the pump is running.

Try running the pump overnight once to see if the issue still happens. That might help narrow it down.

If your pool pump works fine during the day but every morning the water level and pressure drop, it might be a leak or air sneaking into the system. Check around the pump and pipes for any damp spots or drips that could mean water’s escaping.

Air can get in if the pump lid or fittings aren’t sealed tight, causing the pump to struggle when it starts up. Just make sure all the seals and connections are snug, often that’s enough to stop the problem.

Yeah, that’s a weird one. If you’re seeing the water level go down overnight, I’d start by checking around the pump and pipes for any damp spots or slow drips. Sometimes it’s something small you don’t notice right away.

Air could be sneaking in too—like from a loose lid or a cracked fitting. That can mess with pressure when the pump kicks on in the morning. You might try running it overnight just once to see if anything changes. That can help figure out what’s going on.

Yeah, I’ve had something similar happen before. Sometimes, it's as simple as a clogged or loose fitting causing pressure drops. Have you tried checking the return line or the skimmer? Sometimes the issue is something small but easy to miss, like an old seal or a little debris caught in the system. It might be worth giving everything a quick once-over just in case.

A drop in water level and pressure every morning is likely a sign of a leak somewhere in the system, or air getting into the pump. If there's a leak, you might notice wet spots around the pump or plumbing. Check the pump, filter, and pipes for cracks or loose connections. If air is getting into the system, it could be through a suction-side leak, which would reduce pressure. Inspect the skimmer, pump basket, and all fittings for any air leaks. If you're unable to find the cause, it may be worth having a professional perform a pressure test to pinpoint the issue.

Had something similar happen with mine a while back, and I found that it wasn’t the pump at all, but rather a small air pocket that was getting trapped in one of the pipes. It was messing with the pressure and causing a drop. Sometimes the simplest things, like checking the return lines, can make a world of difference. Might be worth a look!
