issue with pool or chlorinator system?

I'm having an issue with my chlorinator system every morning it resets to 100% chlorine output, even though I’ve manually reduced it to 45% multiple times. It won’t retain the setting. Has anyone else experienced this or know what might be causing it?

I’ve actually run into something like that before. In my case, the issue came down to the chlorinator not saving the settings, either from a small power glitch overnight or something acting up in the control board.

A couple things you might want to check: is your system connected to a timer or some kind of automation setup? Sometimes those can override whatever setting you enter manually and reset it each day. If that’s the case, try setting the chlorine output through the controller instead.

If you’re not using any external controls and it’s still resetting, you could try doing a factory reset (your user manual should walk you through it), or even check if there’s a firmware update available for your unit. Worst-case scenario, the control board might be going bad but I’d try the easy fixes first. Definitely a frustrating issue, but not uncommon.

Basically, your chlorinator is not remembering the setting you put in, so it just resets to 100% every time. Sometimes this happens if there’s a glitch in the system or if it loses power overnight, like a little reset.

What helped me was checking if there’s a way to save or lock in the setting after you change it. Some models need you to press save or hold the button down for a few seconds. Also, a quick factory reset helped clear up weird bugs for me.

If none of that works, it might be a problem with the unit’s memory or control board, and then you might need to contact the manufacturer or get a technician to have a look.

That sounds frustrating! It could be a firmware glitch, a faulty control board, or a power interruption causing the system to reset daily. Try checking if there’s a backup battery or setting save option, some models require it. If the issue persists, a quick call to the manufacturer’s support might help identify a fix or, if a replacement part is needed.

Seems like a tech glitch! I’ve also had a similar issue, and what worked for me was turning off the power completely for a few minutes and then turning it back on. It helped clear out some of the internal memory issues. Have you tried that, or does it keep resetting no matter what?

That's really annoying, I’ve had something similar happen before. A few things you might want to check:

Power blips overnight could be the culprit. Even a quick power flicker can cause the system to reset to its default. If it’s plugged into a timer or smart switch, that could also be resetting things without you realizing.

Automation systems sometimes override manual settings. If your chlorinator is connected to a pool automation controller, it may be pushing its own schedule every day. It’s worth checking the settings there.

Old software or a firmware glitch can sometimes cause the unit to forget changes. See if your system has any updates available—it’s rare, but a software fix could help.

Control panel memory problems might also be to blame. If the internal board is faulty or can’t store settings properly, that would explain the reset. A full factory reset followed by reprogramming might be worth a try.

If none of that works, it may be time to call the manufacturer or a pool tech. Hopefully, it’s something simple like a timer or automation setting. Let us know how it goes—others might run into the same issue.

Yeah, that sounds like a control board issue or possibly a power interruption that’s resetting the system each time it restarts. Some models will default back to 100% if they lose power or if the internal memory battery is failing. I’d check to see if it’s losing power overnight or if there’s a firmware reset happening. Could also be a software glitch, depending on the brand. Might be worth checking for updates or giving the manufacturer a call if it keeps happening.

That sounds frustrating! It could be a few things causing your chlorinator to reset like that. One common issue is a malfunctioning or faulty control board, which may not be retaining the settings properly. Another possibility is that the unit is experiencing power fluctuations, which could cause it to reset.

It’s also worth checking the settings on the chlorinator to ensure you’re saving the changes correctly. Some systems require you to press a specific button to confirm the setting after adjusting it. If the problem persists, it might be worth reaching out to the manufacturer or a pool professional to check for any internal issues with the unit, like a defective memory chip or software glitch.

I had something almost identical happen a few months ago, and it turned out to be something I completely overlooked, the chlorinator was getting a tiny power interruption every night when the pump timer switched cycles. It wasn’t enough to shut anything down visibly, but just enough of a “blip” to make the chlorinator reboot and jump back to its default 100%.

A couple things you might try:
  • Check the timer or power source the chlorinator is plugged into. Even a quick flicker can cause a reset.
  • Make sure both the pump and chlorinator are on the same schedule, mismatched timings sometimes cause odd behaviour.
  • If yours has a backup battery or internal clock, that could be failing and causing the unit to lose its memory overnight.
  • Also, some brands automatically revert to 100% if they detect a “cold start,” even if it’s unintentional.
Once I fixed the timer issue, the chlorinator started holding the percentage properly again. Would be great to hear what you find, these little quirks can be tricky to pin down.

That’s a classic “losing memory on restart” symptom. One thing I haven’t seen mentioned yet is to check whether the chlorinator is wired to the load side of the pump relay instead of a constant power feed. Some installs cut and restore power every time the pump cycle changes, which makes the chlorinator think it’s a fresh startup and default to 100%.

Also worth checking inside the unit for any corrosion or moisture around the control panel. Even light condensation can cause weird behaviour with saved settings.

If it only resets after the pump stops overnight, power supply or wiring is very likely the culprit rather than chemistry or cell issues.
