Is it worth upgrading to a cordless pool vacuum?

I’ve been using an old-school hose vacuum for years, and while it works, the setup and cleanup are kind of a pain. I’ve been eyeing the Water Tech Volt FX-8, but I’m on the fence—are these cordless vacuums actually powerful enough for a full clean, or are they better for just spot cleaning? If you’ve switched, was it worth it?

I made the switch last year, and honestly, I don’t miss dragging out the hose at all. I use the Volt FX-8, and while it’s great for quick cleanups, I wouldn’t say it fully replaces a robotic cleaner if you have a big pool. If you just need something for leaves and small debris, it’s totally worth it. What’s the main thing you’re hoping to clean up with it?

Interesting! I’ve been using a traditional hose vacuum too, and I agree with the hassle of setup and cleanup. Have you tried any other cordless vacuums, or would you say the Water Tech Volt FX-8 is the best for the price? Just curious if there are any hidden gems out there.

Sometimes I feel like the tech keeps evolving faster than I can keep up. I’m still rocking a manual vacuum, and honestly, I’ve turned it into a mini workout routine 😅 Curious if anyone’s tried mixing tech—like cordless for spot cleans and a robotic for the deep work. Could be a weird combo, but hey, maybe it works?

Hey Benito,

I was in the same boat not long ago. Had been using the old hose setup forever and finally gave in and picked up the volt fx-8 last season, honestly for me, totally worth it.

It’s not as powerful as a full-on pressure vac, but for day-to-day cleaning and quick jobs, it’s been great. I use it mostly for leaves, sand, and random stuff that settles near the steps or shallow end. setup is basically nothing, just charge it, pop it in, and go. Way easier than dragging out hoses and dealing with the filter system every time.

I wouldn’t say it replaces a full clean if your pool gets really messy, but if you’re just keeping things tidy during the week, it saves a ton of time.
