Is a pool cover really necessary for someone who is about to own a pool? And what materials are best for a pool cover to ensure it lasts long and effectively keeps the pool clean?

In my opinion, a pool cover is really useful, especially if you want to keep debris out and reduce cleaning time. For the material, I’m personally quite satisfied with a solar cover. Besides helping to keep the water warm, this cover also keeps the pool clean. Another option is a mesh cover, which is great for covering the pool during the winter. This cover allows water to drain but still keeps larger debris out

I used to think a pool cover wasn’t really needed, but after having a pool for a bit, I’d say it’s honestly one of the best things you can get. Without one, you’re constantly cleaning out leaves, bugs, and random stuff that blows in. Plus, the water level drops faster than you'd expect from evaporation, especially on hot days.

As for materials, vinyl ones seem to hold up really well. They’re sturdy and last longer, especially if you're looking for a cover that adds a bit of safety too. Solar covers are good if you're mainly trying to keep the water warm, but they’re a bit more fragile. I’ve also seen people use mesh covers, which are great if you get a lot of rain but still want to keep the junk out.

If you're getting a pool, I’d say go ahead and get a cover. It makes maintenance way easier and saves you time and money in the long run. I didn’t get one right away and kind of regret waiting.

Thank you all so much for the detailed explanations and personal experiences! I’m now more confident that using a pool cover is essential for keeping the pool clean and reducing cleaning time. The information about different types of covers, especially solar and mesh, really helps me decide what’s best for my needs. I also agree that having a cover can save time and money on long-term maintenance. I’ll start looking for a cover that fits my situation and climate. Thanks again for all the helpful advice!

I never thought much about pool covers until I got one—honestly, it’s like giving your pool a little shield. Plus, it saves me so much time on cleaning. I went with a solar cover because it keeps the water warm, but I’ve heard mesh covers are great for letting rainwater through without the debris.

I flip my cover back and forth like turning pages in a book one smooth motion and all the leaves just slide off. Makes me feel kind of zen before I even test the water!

Yes, a pool cover is essential for new pool owners as it helps keep debris out, reduces cleaning time, and helps maintain water temperature. It also prevents evaporation and reduces chemical use. The best materials for pool covers are solar covers, which use the sun to heat the pool, mesh safety covers for durability and safety, and solid vinyl covers, which are great for winterization and blocking debris. Choose the one that fits your needs and climate, keeping in mind factors like safety, ease of use, and heat retention.
