Fun Stories About Your Private Pool

What fun or funny experiences have you had in your private pool? Maybe during the first time setting it up, unexpected events, or just relaxing moments spent there?

I remember the first time we set up our pool and the air pump broke halfway through. We all ended up blowing it up by hand, and let me tell you, we were all out of breath by the end!

Oh, great question! One funny memory I have is when we first set up our pool, and I thought I was being super careful about the water chemistry. But I didn’t realize I had accidentally over-chlorinated it, and the whole pool turned a weird neon green! We had to laugh about it because it looked like something out of a science fiction movie. It took a while to fix, but it was definitely a memorable and funny first experience.

As for relaxing moments, there’s nothing quite like floating on a raft at sunset with a cold drink in hand, just zoning out and enjoying the peace. It’s those simple moments that really make having a pool feel special.

When we first set up our above-ground pool, I had this idea in my head that it would be a one-day job, smooth, simple, maybe even a little relaxing. I’d watched a few videos, measured the spot in the yard, and figured: “How hard can it be?” Famous last words. My brother came over to help, and what was supposed to be a quick setup turned into a full-blown circus.

The ground looked level… until we actually started filling the pool. That’s when we noticed one side was filling faster than the other, and water started creeping up toward the top on one end while barely touching the liner on the other. We drained it, adjusted the sand base, tried again — same issue. At one point, my brother lost his balance, stepped into the pool frame before it was filled, and the whole thing wobbled like a cartoon trampoline.

To make things even better, I forgot to fully tighten one of the return fittings. So once we got a few inches of water in, it started spraying out the side like a sideways fountain. I went running to shut the pump off, slipped on wet grass, and landed flat on my back. He laughed so hard he dropped the skimmer pole.

Eventually, after a few hours, a sunburn, and more cursing than I care to admit, we got everything in place and the water started filling evenly. By evening, we were both sitting in the pool, exhausted, sore, but also kind of proud. And right on cue, it started raining. We didn’t even bother getting out. Just floated there in the warm water, letting the rain hit our faces. It actually turned out to be one of the most peaceful moments I’ve ever had in the backyard.

Looking back, the setup was kind of a mess, but it’s one of those stories that gets better every time we tell it. Now every summer when I pull the cover off and start prepping the pool, I remember that day and still laugh about it.

That sounds hilarious, Samuel! I can only imagine how exhausting that must have been. Hopefully, next time, the pump will hold up!

Haha, that sounds like a hilarious first experience, Richard! I can definitely relate to the relaxing moments — nothing beats a peaceful evening by the pool.

That sounds like quite the adventure, Amber! I can definitely relate to those peaceful moments by the pool. It’s always worth the effort in the end!
