I went through this exact decision process when we put in our pool, so I totally get the back and forth. Both have their pros and cons, and a lot comes down to your climate and how you plan to use and maintain the pool.
Steel wall kits are renowned for their strength; they are sturdy and resilient. However, rust can become a problem over time, particularly in humid or rainy climates. A minor abrasion may eventually allow moisture to seep in, even if they are coated or galvanized. They can, however, last a long time with the right maintenance and a quality liner.
Resin pools, on the other hand, won’t rust, which is a big plus. They also stay cooler in the sun, which is nice if you’ve got kids climbing in and out all day. The downside is they can be a bit more expensive, and while they hold up well, they might not feel quite as heavy-duty as steel.
For rust-related peace of mind, I ultimately chose resin, and I've been quite pleased with it. Steel is still a good option, though, if you're good with upkeep and want that extra durability. Just be sure to check for and repair any nicks or scratches as soon as possible.
