Anyone else get hit with green water overnight?

Went to bed with clear water and woke up to the Hulk’s bath. How does algae bloom that fast??
Algae can pop up crazy fast, especially if the sanitizer drops even a little overnight or the pump hasn’t been running enough. Warm temps and sun just make it grow like crazy. When that happens, I usually do a shock treatment right away and brush the walls really well to get it under control. Definitely annoying, but catching it early is key!

Algae can move quickly and stealthily. A few factors can cause it to blow up overnight: sunlight, warm temperatures, and low chlorine levels are all ideal for the growth of algae. Sometimes all it takes to have a green monster pool is one missed pump cycle or a rainstorm that washes nutrients in. Early detection and maintaining control over your chemicals are crucial to preventing it from getting out of control.

Looks like algae can be such a surprise guest! Besides the usual warm weather and storms, I find that if the water isn't circulating properly, it’s like giving algae a free pass to take over. Maybe double-checking the pump and filter could save some trouble

I've had the same happen where I thought the pool was in great shape, and then boom algae out of nowhere. Sometimes, it's not just the filter or chemicals, but I’ve found debris or leaves collecting in the wrong places can give algae the perfect place to hide. After clearing the pool, I check the corners and pump to make sure they’re moving the water the way they should. Algae loves stagnation!

Happened to me once out of nowhere too, and I swear it felt like the pool turned on me overnight. What I figured out later was that even a tiny dip in chlorine or a couple of hours of poor circulation is enough for algae to throw a party.

What helped was brushing the pool first thing, even before adding anything. It breaks up that thin layer that forms on the walls. Then I shocked it pretty heavily and let the pump run non-stop for a full day.

It’s wild how fast algae grows, but once you get the water moving and the chlorine back up, it usually clears quicker than you expect.
